Compaq Contura - with light

Compaq Contura backlight Part 2:
Fortunately, there are at Conrad Electronics cold cathode lamps. According to catalog and store query without the inverter, though not in reality, only virtually oO The store is always strange. Well, for 6 € one can not really complain. Actually.
The cold cathode lamp with inverter in its package. In addition, the emergency solution: 2 bright white LEDs, if either of the lamp for some reason not to do.

Unfortunately, the lamp in a Plasikgehäuse cast, presumably to get all the little case modding children prevent electrical shock, whom they select their housing - ey boah ey crass fat-ey - seal with things oO Well, are 600 volts, after all that comes up from the inverter.

The light in their plastic enclosure - with the finished tape to stick.

the inverter need I of course not, so therefore in the junk box. To test quickly got the contacts from the plug and "loosely" connected to the laptop inverter board.
The plug contacts without plug :-)
connection to the inverter board in the notebook.

And lo and behold ...
Pling :-) astray.

passed compatibility testing :-) Now I had to somehow the lamp housing to get their child protection. Pull off is eliminated, since the parts are glued together. Then just with gentle violence ;-)
crack-full of malice Ratze ...
... a gap ...
into the case ... :-)
can use a screwdriver to the plastic split ends very well, if one has been cut only once.

Now the port side.

To put it a little more complicated to have all the connections of course, resourceful people still pasted. I was just starting to cut, when I noticed that they were only the shrink tube had been stuck.
The part could have probably run loose in the bathtub, as it has been isolated.

So cut cable and pull. Carefully, of course. And lo and behold ...
Finally. The tube I had to move to destroy the lamp can be. Since it is glass, they can not simply take the pliers and pull ;-)
The lamp with bent electrodes, ready for soldering.
Here one can see two 150mm long lamps. Needless to say that the shorter the new Conrad-lamp oO

Now the plug on the new lamp solder, of course, as short as possible in order not to destroy the same.
The right electrode is soldered finish.

follows after the soldering of the installation. Here I had the 15-inch Conrad using the rubber ends slightly longer, but it almost looks as if it would be so ;-)
Has only some shakiness ...
holds ... but by the cover quite good.

now connect the display again, insert, screw, and the inverter cable hinstopfen somewhere ;-)
Almost like new. So ... soon.

And Tadaaa, now you can read the error messages again -. Well if has not paid off ^ ^
"Who am I, where I am, and especially when? "
Jaja, Low Battery and hard drive in the bucket, I know ...

Now quickly put the cover on it, screwed down, ignoring the error messages and with a boot floppy:
NOW he is as good as new :-) Well, at least from the outside.

When going through the whole Fn-key functions I then noticed something really great thing: You get a button in the reverse video mode! No jumpers, no BIOS, just be :-) that on such a LCD be very helpful depending on the application. In any case, I have never been seen by Knofpdruck. Great thing. Why I write really so much to?
Normal ...
... and reverse :-)

Yeah, so am easy to impress I've
;-) Anyway, I now have a working terminal. At some point my big yellow car will bring my USB to serial adapter, and then I can connect the whole thing on my server :-)
